Description

The dancers keep time to the music with the ipu in Po'ipu on Kaua'i. The ipu is a drum made from a gourd, which has many uses in Hawaiian culture. Their ti leaf skirts and fresh plumeria lei typify this style of energetic Hawaiian dancing.

Notes: "ipu" is a good companion to the photographs "Pu'ili" and "Uli Uli". The Pu'ili and Uli Uli are other implements used in this style of Hawaiian dancing in which the dancers add percussion to the music while they are dancing.
