Description
The chisel was used to whittle at the wood to produce intricate designs found on sculptures, idols, and temple images. This artwork titled "Koli Ho'ohua" includes a cultural explanation in hawaiian and english languages. The custom frame is made of koa. The pohaku pao (chisel) is made of basalt rock and 'ohi'a wood. The chisel is placed before a velvet background and is left open for viewers to touch (and use).
