Taniela Pulotu

Taniela Falevai Pulotu is a gifted Master Wood Carver and Royal Carver who currently resides in Hawaii. He is from the “Friendly Islands” of Tonga and has been wood carving since his early 20’s. News of his wood carving skills had spread and soon even the Tongan monarchy had requested his services and as a result, one of his pieces, a giant clam shell, was given by Tonga’s Queen as a gift to the Queen of England and is kept in a London Museum to this day. His works have also included working with his younger brother, Tuione Pulotu, who is also a well-known Master Wood Carver, in making the Royal Throne for the Tongan monarchy, and the 105-foot long double-hulled traditional Kalia canoe that was built to welcome in the year 2000 in Tonga as well. These are a few of the many works he has done, but of course his skills extends to all sorts of Polynesian crafts from the various islands of the South Pacific: Tonga, Samoa, Hawaii, New Zealand, Fiji and Tahiti. He requires no blueprints or instructions to carve up a masterpiece. He simply creates from what he envisions in his mind. With each piece, he continues to create amazing works of art. Each is unique in its own right. There’s no duplication whatsoever. His works reflect the passion and love that he has for what he does. It is what made him famous and popular in the wood carving community.
