In 1990, Steve visited Hawaii leaving his home Australia- and immediately fell in love with the tropical vistas of that island paradise. Steve's images are published by Island Heritage, Hawaii's foremost publisher. His images provide vivid mementos of the spirit of the islands. Island Heritage also commissioned Steve to illustrate " The Whales who won the heart of the World", the top selling children's book in the state of Hawaii in 1996.

In 1992 he was invited to exhibit in Hawaii's prestigious Marine Art Expo.

In 1994, inspired by the marine mythology of early civilizations, Steve's dolphin and mermaid series was selected for display at Tokyo's prestigious Seibu Gallery - and used as imagery in a television documentary on dolphins developed and hosted by Horace Dobbs, the worlds leading dolphin researcher.

In 2006 Steve had the privilege of being featured as the Artist for Ulalena, the "Cirque du Soleil" style show on Maui. Dennis Preussler, General Manager of Ulalena comments, "Maui Theatre is thrilled to feature the art work of Steve Sundram. His depiction's of 'Ulalena are stunning representations of Maui's most acclaimed theatrical production. Steve's paintings truly capture the depth of Hawaiian history and culture in addition to the excitement of "Ulalena".

His recent works "Nostalgic paintings" have a vintage feel, depicting early century landscapes.

Steve's current series "Myth"s of the Seven Seas', explores the captivating era of Tall ships, pirates and ocean myths and legends. The artwork has been accepted into one of California's finest museums, the Dana Point Oceanic Museum.
