- Mike Sakamoto

Born and raised on Oahu, local artist Mike Sakamoto now lives and paints on the Big Island where he has lived since he was 17 years old. Taught watercolor by noted potter and watercolorist Charles Higa of Honolulu, Mike still stays in close touch with his McKinley High School teacher. After High School Mike attended the University of Hawaii in Hilo and Manoa. He majored in fine arts.

Now Mike has moved on to oils on canvas and paints in a very free style with strong and bright colors. Landscapes and seascapes as well as playful still lifes and portraits fill his studio in Hilo. His primary focus is on real-life scenes of Hawaii and its local people. Scenes with flowers and other colorful items set the stage for some large format oils on canvas in the 30 - 40 inch size.

Mike Sakamoto is better known as a fisherman due to the locally produced fishing TV program entitled; FISHING TALES w/ MIKE SAKAMOTO. Thus far Mike has produced over 485 programs which at this time is airing nationally on The Outdoor Channel.
