I come from several generations of fiber artists including my grandmother who not only quilted but also painted, was a master gardener , a great cook and a fine needlework artist. While my time for the fiber arts was limited when I worked in the corporate world as an information systems analyst and tech writer, I jumped at the opportunity to take early retirement and move to Hawaii. From that point on I ve been quilting and dyeing my own fabric non-stop. While I do a lot of quilts for local charities, I ve also been part of several exhibits at the Waimea Arts Council Firehouse Gallery, Quilt Hawaii and the Hawaiian Quilt Show in Waimea.
My quilts are in private collections on the Mainland and in Hawaii and my charity quilts have been donated locally for children in foster care, internationally for children in need as far away as Russia, and as fund raisers for the Salvation Army, the Kohala Hospital and the North Hawaii Community Hospital.
I am a past president of the Mauna Kea Quilters Guild, and a member of the Waimea Hawaiian Quilters Guild; I teach a weekly class in Hawaiian Quilting at Tutus House in Waimea and a dyeing class at a private home in Waimea.
I market my fabric and hand dyed scarves and clothing through my website, Hana Lima Hand Dyes, and at various quilting and fiber art events throughout the islands.
