Aloha a Malama Pono
My name is Katie De Ment and I was born and raised on the Big Island of Hawaii. Learned the art of wreath making in Hilo at the age of 10 from my mother. I was always enrolled in art classes as a child-so naturally, creation is what I do and love-everyday. After high school I went off to the West Coast to study art and then moved on to the Lamarr Dodd School of Art in Cortona, Italy. After missing the smell, taste, and feel of Hawaii I decided to come back and make beautiful art in this beautiful place.
These Big Island wreaths are made of native foliage from high elevation locations on the East side of the island- 'Ohia Lehua Blossom, Pukiawe, Ohelo, and Na Liko Lehua. Each wreath is made with the intention of emulating the Big Islands raw and luscious beauty. The strong vibration of their colors and precious liveliness is what attracts me back to making these wreaths every year during the holiday season.
