Aloha,
My name is Cynthia Davis; I was recently married on June 16, 2007 so you also may know me as Cynthia Cabral.
Deeply affected by art since childhood, I have been drawing with a passion since elementary school. In high school I took as many art classes as I was allowed. I began attending college in 1975 in Los Angeles, California for a degree in Commercial Art. I fell in love with a surrealist artist named Salvador Dali; however my move to Hawaii in 1977 rapidly changed my affections. I was surrounded by such beauty in nature that my new love and passion became realism.
My first job here in the islands was airbrushing T-shirts at the International Marketplace in Waikiki. Repetitive but fun, this exposure lead to greater opportunities. My next venture was painting surfboards for a very well known surfboard company, so well known you may have even ridden my art. While very instrumental in my development as an artist, these experiences only fueled my desire to go into business for myself.
My first products were airbrushed paintings and sun visors, which I sold at the Aloha Stadium Flea Market. At that time I had a VW bug and packed everything inside of it. (That would be a good commercial for Volkswagen!!! ) Desiring something a bit more challenging, I broadened my artistic horizons by creating a line of women's clothing. Though this was a very satisfying and successful trade for me for nearly 25 years, a few years ago I decided I needed a change. A Big change. I desired to share my talent with a wider range of people.
I found a school in New Mexico and attend in January 2005. A form of artwork I personally have always loved and desired to do was Glass Etching. With my background in drawing, painting and airbrushing, Glass Etching was simple to ease into. Now I am doing something I really love. Taking my inspiration from the beautiful world God created, I sketch my vision onto paper, transferring that through various steps onto glass or a variety of surfaces. Then using an abrasive, (known as sand, I use silicon carbide) I blast an image into the glass, creating a nearly 3-dimensional design through varying depths and shading.
I am proud to know that all the pieces of art I have made have been purchased by people from all over the world. I'm grateful that my visions and dreams add to the beauty of their surroundings. Finally, I am blessed to use my God given talent to grace their homes with a touch of nature's beauty.
